The Jesuits introduced Sugar Cane into South Louisiana and put those Injuns to Work, Chopping Down Sugar Cane on the Catholic-oriented Plantations. Houma was originally Houmas Indian Land. Now, The Native Houmas People still have a Blood Feud with The White Man. Our Government designated lower Parishes adjacent the Gulf of Mexico as Nationally Recognized Indian Reservations. A very dangerous place to fish from the bank or cast-net shrimp from Public Navigable Waterways. The Indians Do Not Believe there is such a thing as a Public Waterway.
